오리엔탈리즘회화와 그 일본적 변용 - 마네의 <올랭피아>와 그 오마주 -

Abstract

근대 식민지 시기의 여성 인물화는 한국 근대 미술의 신흥 인기 주제로 부각되면서 脱性画와, 性画의 이미지로 양립되어 탈성화는 현모양처상을 양산하고 성화로서는 춘정류미인화로 구분하고 있으며 이는 여성표상의 원류라고 인식하고 있다. 그러나 오리엔탈리즘의 일률적인 적용은 화가에 따라, 혹은 구체적인 영향관계에 따라 그 성격이 크게 달라질 수 있다는 점을 간과하고 있다. 예를 들어 식민지 회화에서 ‘민족 의상’을 그리는 것과 ‘향토색’의 강조만으로 그 성격을 유추하는 것은 권력구조의 분석과 이중 차별화에 이르는 젠더론적 편성의 검토에서 유효하다고 하더라도 각 작품이나 화가의 다양한 중층적인 요소를 시야에 넣지 않은 것이다. 본 연구에서는 오리엔탈리즘회화에서 ‘식민지의 여성 이미지’로 소비되는 한 예를 프랑스의 살롱에서 입선한 마네의 <올랭피아>와 이와 관련한 오마주를 분석함으로써 서양에서의 오리엔탈리즘 회화의 의미가 근대 일본에서 어떻게 변용되었는지를 구체적으로 추적하고자 한다. 교토의 화단에서 서양화에 대항하여 ‘일본화’를 모색하던 츠치다 바쿠센(土田麦僊)과 서양화가로서 주도적인 역할을 한 후지시마 다케지(藤島 武二)와의 대비를 통해 일본의 서양회화에 대한 수용의 특징과 차이를 살펴보았다. Tsuchida Bakusen undertook a study tour of Europe for approximately two years, from 1921 to 1923.This study tour greatly influenced Bakusen in his work as a painter. His style of art changed greatly after his European experience, therefore when considering Bakusen’s works it is necessary to take into accountthese influences. Much of the correspondence Bakusen sent from Europe to his wife Chiyo and younger brother Kyouson is still extant. In this paper I arrange these letters in order, and analyse them in order to gain an insight into Bakusen’s European sojourn and the influence it played on his art.
