역사 토크쇼의 장르 혼종화 : KBS1 〈역사저널 그날〉 분석을 중심으로

Abstract

이 연구의 목적은 역사 토크쇼라는 혼종 장르에서 역사를 다루는 방식이 어떻게 변화하고 있는지를 고찰하는 데 있다. 역사 토크쇼의 장르 혼종성과 역사의 정서적 전환 양상을 구체적으로 살펴보기 위해 KBS1 〈역사저널 그날〉을 양적, 질적으로 분석하였다. 양적 내용분석을 통해 〈역사저널 그날〉의 전체 에피소드 104편(2013.10～2015.12 방영분)의 시기별, 소재별 분포를 살펴보았다. 질적 텍스트 분석은 조선시대 정조와 관련한 에피소드 5편에 대해 장르분석과 대화분석 방법을 활용해 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 〈역사저널 그날〉은 형식적 구성요소, 영상 스타일, 대화 내용에서 정보과 오락의 혼합성과 정서적 전환을 잘 보여주고 있었다. 구체적 특성으로는 첫째, 무거운 내용과 가벼운 유머의 혼합, 둘째, 시청자 눈높이에서 표현, 셋째, 역사적 인물에 대한 감정이입, 넷째, 과거를 통한 현실 비판 등의 패턴이 나타났다. 마지막으로 역사 토크쇼의 대중친화적 접근방식이 갖는 사회문화적 함의를 논의하였다.

This study aims to explore the recent changes shown in new hybrid genres of television historical programs. This study argues that the recently broadcast Korean TV historical talk-show, ‘History Journal, The Day’, (KBS1) is a specific indicator of genre-blending and history’s “affective turn”. In order to examine the specific characteristics of this hybrid genre, this study analyses the series “History Journal, The Day” through quantitative and qualitative methods. 104 episodes broadcast during October 2013-December 2015 were analyzed in terms of historical period and themes. Several episodes dealing with King Chungcho, the most popular Korean King from the Chosun dynasty were closely analysed through conversational analysis. The resulting analysis shows hybrid genre characteristics and history’s “affective turn” in terms of formats, visual style, and verbal content. In conversational analysis, several interesting patterns were found: the blending of serious topics and humor, the sympathetic identification with the historical character and the rendering of historical past to criticise the conflicted present. This study discusses the social, political and cultural implications of this hybrid approach in Korean historical programs.
