알바로 폼보의 윤리적 인식: 「루스밀라」와 「변화」를 중심으로

Abstract

스페인 시인이자 소설가 알바로 폼보는 오늘날 스페인어권에서 가장 높이 평가 받는 작가군에 속한다. 1977년 첫 소설집을 출판한 이래 현재까지 그의 소설의 일 관된 특징은 현학적이고 탐미적인 문체, 철학적 사유, 기독교 신앙의 높은 비중, 인간 의식에 대한 집중적 탐구, 선의 추구 등이다. 본고에서는 1977년 첫 단편집 에 실린 루스밀라 와 변화 를 분석하며, 두 작품이 공통적으로 접근하는 소재인 동성애와 공통 모티브인 가톨릭의 ``실체변화``의 의미를 살펴보며 폼보 문학의 독창적 특징을 찾는다. 폼보는 두 작품을 통해 편견 없는 인식을 통해서만 비주류적 가치들을 바르게 이해할 수 있으며, 개인적 인식의 자유로운 변화가 주류집단의 독선에 대한 저항으로까지 이어질 수 있다고 주장한다.

Alvaro Pombo, one of the most estimated Spanish-speaking writers today, shows through his novels and short stories some dominant features and tendencies: particularly pedantic and aesthetic style, philosophical inquiries, notable importance of christian faith, observation of human consciousness and will of searching for goodness. This work analyzes two Pombian short stories, “Luzmila" and “El cambio" chosen among his first fictions, Relatos sobre la falta de sustancia(1977). The author emphasizes that one can understand non-mainstream or unjustly marginated values only when he sees them without prejudice, and invites the reader to experiment this way of seeing through his style and narrator. Pombo also suggests the importance of individual and subjective “changes in consciousness”, because, he says, from these changes one starts to challenge the self-righteousness of the mainstream society.
