‘비주류’IR이론과 한국의 국제정치문제: 탈식민주의를 향한 재조명, 탈식민주의를 통한 재구성

Abstract

본고는 국제관계학(IR)에서 비주류에“위치되어”(situated) 있으면서도 상대적으로 더욱 주변부에 머물고 있는 탈식민주의 이론을 전면에 내세워 고찰함으로써 IR 학계의 편중된 이론적 논의를 확장하는데 공헌하고자 한다. 나아가 탈식민주의 이론을‘렌즈’로 한국에 큰 영향을 끼치고 있는 국제정치문제를 관통시켜봄으로써, 문제해결을 위한 대안적 시각을 제공하고자 한다. 비록 탈식민주의는 IR (특히 한국IR)에서 매우“주변화”혹은“배제”되어 있는 비주류 이론이지만, 한반도 평화와 동아시아 지역협력이라는 현실의 문제에 매우 중요한 학술적, 실천적 시사점을 제공하고 있음을 보여준다. This article aims to contribute to IR literature by bringing one of the most `marginalized` IR theory to the fore, namely postcolonialism, and rethinking the present state of IR scholarship through postcolonialism. Further, the article puts on a postcolonialist lens to look at Korea`s international political issues in different ways and thereby generate alternative approaches. In doing so, this article shows that although postcolonialism remains at the margins of the margins of contemporary IR scholarship, it can make significant epistemic contributions to the study of IR and practical contributions to addressing the challenges that South Korea and East Asia face.
