Abstract
This study examines the frequency and content of information in eight major newspapers with regard to Korea s 18th presidential election. The study was conducted by analyzing the frequency of content types. It classified newspaper articles regarding Park Geun-hye and Moon Jae-in, the major party presidential candidates in the election, as general election information, personal information, and election pledges. The intense coverage of the two candidates is interpreted as a reflection of the short official campaign period for an important presidential election. The frequency of election stories in the eight newspapers occurred in the following order: general election information, then personal information, then election pledges, the subject of only 20.4% of the stories. It is argued that this weighting reflected a higher concern with the negative images of the candidates than with serious information regarding election pledges.
